We have to remember that we (the users) are the product and we use freely provided platforms and nothing comes for free. Also considering that we only have had the social media for about 20 years now, it is not a long time span for what options it offers. Similar to the consumers we are, we also choose what products we buy and we can also choose what social media we want to be on. But in that extension, the current problem with social media is that they are literally global reach, so enforcing regulations can be a very hard thing to do vs e.g a country or region making demands to the quality of the products they import and sell their people. But overall it must come down som some balance points over time and properly we would all be better off with some nearly global regulations on the subject. Still, tech communication giants are private entities, so demanding all sorts of things while we at the same want freedom and free usability of all sorts is a slightly spoiled/and or contrasting viewpoint. And I do not support all the data that is collected on all of us, but it is currently the trait of "free".
