Because they learn the most effective parts from all the Martial arts and Martial sports combined and it is thought without mercy and without the intend to win, but to eliminate or to control the situation to the advantage of the goal. E.g In Russia it is not un common that applicants die at this training/education. An agent operating in conflict or war zones must be all time prepared and take advantage of everything in any dire situation - this is not about adhering to a system or to win a fight with rules - it is about adaption and extreme consequence. - The only thing that perhaps slightly simulates this is Matt Damon in the movie Bourne Identity - the scene where he is fighting another agent inside the apartment - and yea well it is a fictional movie - but for those in the movie business know that thorough research and bringing in specialists creates better movies. That said, for any common person who is not to become a pro fighter or having dreams of becoming the local street fighter hero any well founded Martial Art or Sport thought well and trained continuously for long period of time will help the person to evade a dire situation better that those who have not trained anything. On the other hand you might as well be of such bleached personality or character that even a bully would not consider you a target worth attacking - I have witnessed friends, with no fighting capabilities what so ever, walk out of potentially escalating situations without a scratch - More than half of such situations are resolved by psychology, if you got the nerve or the capacity to avoid the natural fear.
