If you don´t like it so be it, you are not forced to by this BMW since the traditional BMW range is available. One needs to understand that the i3 car is aiming at a different and growing customer segment and both the i3 and the i8 is a bold step for BMW to take - It´s in fact rather daring if you think about the traditional BMW buyer. The i3 might not be called beautiful but it is a clear and contemporary design statement never the less. The platform is also a minor revolution in automotive production terms. While examplewise Mercedes have gone to Tesla to get their E technology, BMW has developed it´s own - That speaks for a certain dedication and I would add foresight in which way new generations of car buyers will choose their cars. If the i3 Gets successful then VW group will have to respond, but their take on the matter might be slightly more traditional - We will see. I am a petrol head my self but one should not ignore that many new customers will live their life differently with a complete different check list for buying automotive transport. The i3 is the start fro BMW entering and preparing sales in these customer segments. I can´t say that I love the i3, but the more I see it the better I actually like it - and I like it best when it is in motion. I hope they make the Coupe version that came with some of the last concept designs, that had a stronger attraction IMO.

Think you got yourself a bit stuck - Though many EV/hybrids was looking weird. and ugly earlier I will agree. But some new editions is quite decent designs; Tesla & Tesla S, Renault ZOE, The Opel Ampera is also not awkward. Then also add that a lot of traditional designs actually comes as Hybrids these days and more is right around the corner; Porsche Panamera S Hyrbrid, Porsche Cheyenne S Hybrid, Range Rover Hybrid, Mercedes Benz E 300 BlueTEC hybrid, 2013 Toyota Prius C, 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid, 2014 Porsche plug-in Panamera S E-Hybrid, 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid, 2013 BMW ActiveHybrid 3, 2013 Ford C-Max Energi, 2013 Nissan Leaf, 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid, 2013 Audi Q5 Quattro Hybrid and the list is in fact much longer. So even that you do not like the i3, which is a daring design exploration by BMW due to it´s normal customer base, one can´t generalize about ugly EV´s and hybrids anymore - As the technology and the eco statement of driving EV/hybrid becomes ever more present we will see a lot of Hybrids and more EVs entering the markets during the next 5-10 years time, some will be completely new automotive platforms like the i3 and i8 and others will be traditional designs.
