  2. In my opinion, the Europeans have such difficulties understanding what they really did. They see themselves as good people, so they have to say things like Africans needed European civilization. They even lie to make themselves look good. For example, the Portuguese love to tell people that they were the first Europeans to abolish slavery, yet they were the last. Many people telling Portuguese history repeat this lie. No one alive is responsible for the past, but the pain is carried on by the victims of colonialism. Having said that, Africa must admit its participation in the Arab and European slave trade. Many African leaders benefitted for centuries from the gifts given in exchange for slaves. Both parties must at least acknowledge this fact. Nigerians revolted when the Europeans abolished the transportation of slaves to the Americas.
