''“My philosophy is an inverted Platonism: the farther removed from true being, the purer, the finer, the better it is''' said Nietzsche. Plato was a man leading his way to heaven, while Nietzsche was heading deep into the earth. Yet the beloved Nietzsche should remember the words of the philosopher he so admired, Heraclitus: "The way up and the way down is one and the same". Nietzsche had grasped that when he said ''“Socrates, to confess it frankly, is so close to me that almost always I fight a fight against him.” Nietzsche (fragment, 1875) IMO the title should change to ''why Nietzsche LOVED AND HATED Plato''

@javiersoto5223 I think he means under Pythagorean philosophers!!!

@Mcgif21 Nietzsche did not consider selfishness as actually being a ''vice'' but rather a virtue!! He considered that our instincts and intuition(what the ancients and Socrates among them called ''daemon'') which according to Nietzsche are biologically given, are what truly define who we are. Except that according to Nietzsche, ''noble spirits'' and what provoked evolutionary impulse is not the instinct of ''self-preservation'' but the ''will to power''.

@ChickPeaFan '''You're taking the Heraclitus' quote out of its context.'' Context?? I didn't realise that you were the only one who had the original Heraclitus' text. Cause the whole rest of the world doesn't actually have Heraclitus himself, but only fragments of his work quoted by later ancient writers. And no, what I am doing is not taking ''out of context'' but applying his quote that pretty much describes his worldview into a holistic way of thinking. But I guess that requires a hint of intelligence to comprehend it. '', it's still nonsense to say that a thing is equal to its opposite and that because Nietzsche hated Plato, he loved Plato.'' Actually such ''nonsense'' is Heraclitus' way of thinking himself, the concept of the ''Unity of Opposites'', which is what pretty much contradicts Aristotelian logic. And trust me Nietzsche sympathised with such viewpoint.

@smkxodnwbwkdns8369 ''a virtue of higher men'' Uhm did I say the opposite?? That's exactly what I said actually ''Except that according to Nietzsche, ''noble spirits'' and what provoked evolutionary impulse is not the instinct of ''self-preservation'' but the ''will to power''.'' ''you are almost certainly not a part of. '' Uhm 1)Do I know you?? 2) Did I actually proclaim myself as ''part of higher men''??

@smkxodnwbwkdns8369 '''none of Heraclitus writings survived only quotes of his writing through text of say Plato. '' Not just Plato but many other writers as well. And why are you repeating what I say in a lecturing tone as if I deny what I actually stated in the first place?? ''And there is larger contexts known of his philosophy in other peoples words'' Yes and many different interpretations as well by the different peoples of different philosophical schools. The specific quote(about up and down) was perceived by the Stoics and Plato differently. Also what you say still fails to explain how exactly I got Heraclitus' text out of context or wrong as you claim I did. '' You’re obviously not very educated in philosophy .'' Or maybe you are just acting like an a ss, putting words that noone said in the mouths of others, and then acting like a lecturer over things that either they never said or denied out of your urgent need to brag about your non-existent intelligence or ''superior knowledge''. A friendly advice: Change tactic if that's your purpose, your moronic attempt at trying to look smart is a failure.

@smkxodnwbwkdns8369 ''you said selfishness wasn’t a vice when it is according to nietzsche'' No it isn't, first of all, Nietzsche did not speak in such a ''moralising'' lecturing tone about what is ''good'' or ''bad'' like you do. If you have found such a quote where Nietzsche says that ''selfishness is bad'', then show it and show us the source. The floor is yours. ''he is talking about the reader as the exception.'' Right, once again, spitting out a strawman argument.

@aggelosvasilis7457 Uhm Hitler and the Nazis also copied much from Plato's Republic as well. ''A handful of people) elevate the culture of the dumm men.'' Also Plato shared this aristocratic view of Nietzsche. '''be careful what you wish for because the next Hitler can be on the door. ''' Yeah be scared of the boogieman. Your Reductio ad Hitlerum already shows your intellectual level!!!

I am sure however that Plato (had he been living or if an afterlife actually exists) would remember (and would want to be remembered by) interesting dialectical opponents like Nietzsche and Nietzsche would prefer to be remembered just by Plato than the majority of people(whom both philosophers despised) who know nothing of them but simply admire them on account of their ''famousness''.
