Populism allows for an opportunity to make something of yourself, if you work hard and have some intelligence and sense of personal responsibility. Populism does not favor elites for top jobs and businesses, but selects winners on their own merits. Socialism is a nanny state that removes personal responsibility and provides certain guarantees to its citizens. With socialism, whether you are smart, hard-working or not will not make any meaningful difference in your life.
