The Mari El people might be whom you are referring to. They still practice (syncretic, since they were partially Christianized) paganism today. They are Europe's only continuously practicing pagans. Though the current mayor of that region hates them and discourages anything that makes them distinct. Very sad state of affairs.

@MLaserHistory Thank you for the video and the engagament for clarification in the comments. I must say it is baffling and somewhat depressing that not a single intact pagan-authored source survives, even with Slavic pagans themselves being extant as late as the Middle Ages. Though I suppose the religious nature of bringing Cyrillic to the Slavs constrained the material which would be written in it, since those who learned to write must have also been converted.
