True, but it's never worth over-estimating yourself. That's the pride before the fall. People might mistankenly believe that spending more than the next 10 countries combined means that it could take any one of them individually.

I think there are still some things that Putin could have done. Extended a hand to negotiate once more even after Boris Johnson convinced Zelensky in April to drop the pending deal. Or, contacted Kuleba (the Ukrainian foreign minister) to discuss a constitutional amendment in Ukraine to bar then from ever joining NATO, as he had suggested a week or so before the actual invasion.

@hhumca True, but if (for instance) Zelensky had held a national referendum on whether to drop their NATO bid or keep going, it likely would have dropped it (~17% of the country wanted it pre-February), and this mess could have been entirely avoided. I don't understand why the Ukrainian government pursued this policy knowing how low that issue polled on its own

@TheDozinggrey Probably will do covert attacks so Finland can't legally retaliate with direct force. Not sure when though
