  1. I think there are still some things that Putin could have done. Extended a hand to negotiate once more even after Boris Johnson convinced Zelensky in April to drop the pending deal. Or, contacted Kuleba (the Ukrainian foreign minister) to discuss a constitutional amendment in Ukraine to bar then from ever joining NATO, as he had suggested a week or so before the actual invasion.
