@ndnsjensbsuiajs7514 I repeat— the Illyrians described by the Romans are not verifiable as Albanians. And you can't say that they're definitely Albanian but their writings were destroyed, because for you to know that, they'd need to have left some evidence behind— which you just said they didn't. Also, if the Albanians were writing by the time of the Romans, or even the Slavs (~600s), you'd see evidence of some continuity between then and Albanians now. Some pottery shards, lost manuscripts, ruins of buildings with a distinct Albanian style. But no such things exist. They wouldn't have stopped writing new things just because some foreign people destroyed their old stuff. I'm sorry that Albanians don't have a very rich history. That's just life— not every civilization can have a rich and fruitful ancient history to look upon like Iran, China, or Greece. Most are much less documented. No amount of nationalism will change that fact.

@ndnsjensbsuiajs7514 It's not incorrect. Albania has a very short and poorly documented history. First written instance of Albanian is Formula e pagëzimit by Pal Engjëlli in 1462. It's honestly shocking that it took that long for a single word of Albanian to be written down. That's why it's speculated that they lived primitive, nomadic lives before this. If Albanians actually had a great civilization like China, it would all be written down. Instead, there's conspiracy theories about Illyria. Because that's all they have, there are simply no records prior to 1462.

@aaa-f5g2i ...I'd argue the "east" actually wanted a united Balkans, it's just that each of the constituent groups of this unified state wanted to leave. It's more that the Balkans wanted a divided Balkans, and the West benefits from that, so they want it too.
