@sashiftpi If I am not mistaken, even Ukrainian polls from before 2014 showed a majority support vote for Yanukovich. And the desired referendum in 1994 shows that the did want to be independent

@joey199412 Yes, thanks to enormous economic help from Europe and America. While Russia was also put into "shock therapy", but instead Newyork banks took money out of Russia and Americans were sneaking into the first auctions for privatized state enterprise stocks. Russia had a lot of wealth and America happily took as much as they could until Putin arrived

@julkafedun7980 Isn't earliest spelling of Kyiv (in old Ukrainian) Кыѣвъ and then later Кїєвь? This is said as 'Kiev', similar to 'Moscow' being the older way to say 'Maskva'. The older sound was preserved in foreign languages

@2hotflavored666 And I do not deny what Putin is doing. His actions have hurt the economy. But at least under him, the country is stable. And from 2000s, average Russian income has tripled! It is only after 2008 and sanctions that Russian economy has slowed. But, men are not dying of alcohol so early anymore. There is national security. There is a pension system. None of this was functional with Eltsin. But at least the ones who have the money are Russian oligarchs, not American ones. "Embraced democracy" We tried, and USA interfered. Read the prior comment. They admitted this years later. America never wanted to help Russia, only kick th enemy when he was down. So stop pretending that you have an obvious solution, your suggestion was tried already and it failed. Democracy is luxury for secure rich countries. And funny, America doesn't have it either. "Lobbying" is just corruption.
