  1. ​ @Lenioogami  I agree, but you seem to be drawing opposite conclusions. I would like to see all Anglo settler states reclaimed by Natives. But past a certain point it becomes a question of feasibility. In the case of the Caldoche (French New Caledonians), it would be very easy to bring all of them back to France. A good chunk have only been there since the 1970s when France deliberately settled the islands to make the Kanaks a minority in their own homeland. And their identity has not changed enough to consider them "native", i.e. distinct from the Metropolitan French. Unlike in the US, there are still enough Kanaks to repopulate the island completely. As a counter example Australians wouldn't fit in in the UK and have politically and culturally disconnected from them. These French have not. It highlights the uncomfortable truth that the only thing separating crimes against humanity from "that's just how history played out and we can't bring justice to the native people" is time. The goal of any Western power is to hold onto their colony for long enough that the colonists' descendants are deemed blameless and therefore can't be kicked out on moral grounds. Thus Western cultural roots have been permanently planted, and the host country reaps the benefits.

  2. They are the exception to the rule, because of their nickel mining. Also doesn't take into account that average might be skewed upwards by Caldoche (French) earnings.
