  1. Right. Although it's hard to draw a clear line of continuity from one to other, much like there's dispute over who can claim to be the Kievan Rus' "successor". The Rus definitely had elements of what we would today classify as Swedish culture, but probably didn't identify as Swedish themselves.

  2. No, I'd say Spanish first. Romanovs (or Russia) are the religious successor, no argument there, but their territory didn't cover any of the Eastern or Western parts of the Empire. Spain at least covered Iberia and has a (dubious, but still) legal claim.
