Guldalder It isn't out of the question. China was at a similar stage in industrializing (that is, only partially) before its military proved too weak to defend itself. It's possible that Europe would have felt too much camaraderie to enslave Russia like that, but Britain had shown signs of jealousy over 1/8 of the world's land mass and most of its mineral wealth. Also, a market-fueled government producing tanks would never had reached the capacity the U.S.S.R. had. Ruthless as he was, Stalin's psychological influence over the Union had the workers (in the state-funded gigafactories) working as hard as they could.
