Moscow is indistinguishable from any big US city if that's what you're after, and the surrounding suburbs are less individual (more brownstones and apartment buildings) than single-family homes— but if you want to invest in a house there, you can. Contrary to media, most places within striking distance of a city are rather nice. There are many impoverished areas, but that's no different to going to Biloxi, Mississippi. I would recommend visiting first to see if you even like it there

@irinshi8379 Well, it's safe by virtue of there being more people overall. Much harder to commit crimes when you are within earshot of 20 people at all times. In that sense it's no different to any European city. That being said, it is very clean compared to any US city and transport is very advanced. But there are still areas that you shouldn't venture at night. Don't come thinking it is utopia— delusional thinking hinders progress. Russia has a lot of work left to do.

@Esme4949 It wasn't a sad one, either. Just a different way of life. My great grandparents were among 11 kids, and while they were poor, they weren't destitute. That's not to say we should revert back to that, but at least subsidize single-family apartments in cities and surrounding areas (since that's where people move to anyway) and make raising a child as easy as possible. It is also worth noting that it also takes an attitude shift. No matter how painless and financially easy you make it, if someone doesn't want kids, they won't have them. So it's also about values

The genius of the American system is that it rotates. It has all the trappings of a genuine democracy, but with none of the policy changes that one would associate with a changing opinion in the population. In that way, there is no "regime" to overthrow, and each party can point to the other as a scapegoat. Because there isn't a concrete single entity to direct anger to, the populace is unable to coalesce and overthrow it be force. It's so brilliantly crafted I'd almost think the Founding Fathers didn't actually want democracy, and not just in the "preventing mob rule" Jeffersonian sense.

Eh, that's a historical analomy. Industrialization, crops from the New World, and colonizing the rest of the world allowed for that imbalance. We shouldn't aim to recreate that, but create a more stable world where all cultures can thrive in peace. Western ones included.

@Penname25 Update: He's not been included in the New Hampshire (?) ballot, didn't cross enough thresholds. He's still young, so there's time. Maybe next election cycle
