  1. The genius of the American system is that it rotates. It has all the trappings of a genuine democracy, but with none of the policy changes that one would associate with a changing opinion in the population. In that way, there is no "regime" to overthrow, and each party can point to the other as a scapegoat. Because there isn't a concrete single entity to direct anger to, the populace is unable to coalesce and overthrow it be force. It's so brilliantly crafted I'd almost think the Founding Fathers didn't actually want democracy, and not just in the "preventing mob rule" Jeffersonian sense.
