  1. This opens them up to even greater problems, though (although this is unlikely) since they're not a signatory to the UNCLOS, Russia could claim waters off of Alaksan territory. It would be violating international law, but the US couldn't legally object, since they don't recognize the legitimacy of that law anyway. And to quickly ratify the UNCLOS would give America another headache, since they would have to support Greece against Turkey, who also doesn't recognize the law (because it would make the entire sea off Turkey's coast exclusively Greek territory).
