FantomOmega It's not a formal part of the language, though. It's colloquial, and if we're extending it that far, then every language just gained a few new words and grammatical structures.

@demkoolya As a Russian speaker, I can say that I generally have the easiest time understanding Ukrainian and Polish. Southern Slavic languages always baffle me, especially Croatian. The lack of vowels is tough to see past.

@AndrewVasirov No language is perfect :) The advantage of having a language that is modernized like Russian, comes at a cost: you can't read old texts! It's very confusing with ъ at the end of everything, and i where и should be..

@coryryan5547 This is a very strange hill for you to die on. Chinese is among the most information-dense languages on Earth, and you don't need to recognize every little symbol to understand what is being said— context is key. Even in Mandarin. If you're going to make the accusation that Chinese is outdated, I hope you're willing to extend that demand to English, as well. Its entire phonetic system is completely trash, it was standardized just before the Great Vowel Shift, and is also in dire need of an update.

@coryryan5547 Alphabet =/= language. I hope in the 3 years since you've matured at least a little bit. Greece did take many elements of its script from Phonecians, but the structure of the spoken language itself was not. Greeks "invented" vowels only in the sense that they designated separate letters for them. Vowels and consonants have existed for as long as language, and you seem to have confused two separate histories.

Besides pronunciation, Polish is actually VERY easy to learn. Native speaker and I haven't yet come across any spelling inconsistencies whatsoever. It is literally one sound = one letter (or pair), but it is wholly internally consistent, sound-wise. Pretty cookie-cutter European language.

Евгений Увин Edit: I wrote this comment before reading all of yours. What I wrote is obvious to you already, so I'd advice skipping over it! Russia and Poland, despite having a long and very violent relationship, complement each other perfectly as languages. In Polish school, when I was learning the language's vocabulary, I could always reference Russian if I needed to check how a word is spelled. This is because Polish has two ways to spell the "Ж" sound (spoken like the J in Jacques)— "ż" and "rz." The Russian counterparts to these words, though, only use the letter R. So if I'm not sure how to spell river (rzeka), I look to Russian, see it's spelled "Река," and the answer is clear!

@Zveebo Well, then you've got a problem. Entire dialects of English (grammar, vocabulary and all) are unintelligible to other dialects. Where does that leave them, if some people speaking the same language don't understand? And again, when I say 'formal', of course an arbitrary distinction is drawn, but a spectrum still has two sides. There is a difference between a question-particle and creating an entirely different system of grammar- what qualifies as English?
