@fidadefoe That's what Hitler said about the USSR, kick the door in and the whole rotten structure will crumble. When your thinking on Russia matches that of a rapid ideologue, maybe you need to rethink your opinions. After all didn't Obama say it was "a gas station with an army"? The largest industrial base in Europe now. Never underestimate the enemy.

@WatcherCCG ..Are you serious? Even if we entertain that idea, if Russia has a few cities turned into glass, the rest of Europe is gone entirely. There's a reason that MAD has an "M" in it— the destruction is mutual. But even if we ignore the effect on the global economy and irradiation— most of Russia's population lives outside of those cities. They have 40M people max, while Russia as a whole has 140M+. Same goes for Europe. France is not just Paris, Poland is not just Warsaw.

@Prushinthespirit Polish Americans (and all immigrant groups in very assimilation-heavy countries) tend to become more conservative over time, a caricature of an actual Polish person. This comes from an underlying insecurity of their loss of actual similarity with people from the homeland. Same as Big Fat Greek Wedding, or NYers claiming they're more Italian than the Italians.

@0816M3RC Sorry to break it to you but that's not how countries think. Why didn't the US just allow Cuba to point nuclear weapons at them?? Oh, they freaked out at a tiny country being supported by a larger alliance right on their border... sounds familiar but I can't put my finger on it. Any potential threat is seen as a real one. If the US has military access to the Baltics, it is naive to assume their best intentions for Russia, or any other adversary. Those same troops can be used for actual attacks, not just war games. And since both sides have nukes, if (let's say for example) the US trains and arms, as a complete hypothetical, Chechen rebels to invade Dagestan and try to balkanize Russia, they have ways of attacking without triggering nuclear war.

@Murcatto-hu1ym The wording of Article 5 doesn't actually specifically oblige member nations to fight, just that "an attack on one is to be considered an attack on all".

@olavipoeg It sounds to me like someone has never been there) If that's your impression then I can say outside Paris, France is just farms and villages
