  1. If we're talking about winning wars, though, your gear doesn't need to be advanced. You just need to it be about the same as the enemy, and is produce so much they can't handle it. This is what allowed the T-34 to carry the Soviets against the more advanced but much more complex and expensive Panzer. Also, Japan is dependent on imports for almost everything, even a partial Russian naval blockade would cripple the Japanese people.
