@zacharyhenderson2902 More like, find a balance. Unless you're comfortable with returning to the days of old, where buildings came pre-built with high casualty rates! Regulations are necessary in some sense; but yes in others they can afford to be relaxed.

Jeppe We don't live in Imperial Europe anymore. That kind of capital (i.e.. slave labour) isn't available, nor will the labor costs for European workers ever be that cheap (1900's) again. To design a city to be beautiful would take billions of dollars, if not trillions. The market is simply 'too occupied' providing people housing in the short-term to build anything worthwhile.

@akg_table Nope. You just don't want to admit that the previous generation consists of a bunch of cold-blooded, narcissistic drunks. They came into the post-war economy and what did they do? Insist that every house have a fucking lawn, white picket fence, and no blacks allowed! And then impose laws saying no one else can build anything different! Pieces of shit, can't wait for them die off fast enough.

isaiahbruckhaus The view of what? The other ugly buildings? I hope it isn't lost on you that, because historic buildings are more aesthetically pleasing and people tend to congregate around them, simply having an ugly building near historical ones raises its property value.

Bill Wilson With all due respect, that's a load of crap. Greece and Italy are 500 years old? Come on now. Even the younger states are 1000 years old at a minimum. If you expand that definition to 'nations' (tribes, with no large governance) then European culture is 1500-2000 years old. China and India are older, yes, but they are situated by fertile valleys. Of course the humans that settled there would develop more quickly. Also, unless you think concrete and representative government aren't important elements in today's world, you need to give ancient Europe credit for its achievements, too.

@Fanghorn Bilers You've clearly never been in Shenzen. Every industrialized country has a world-class city. I don't take Birmingham as the picture of England, do I?
