California uses its snowpack every year, that's how a good chunk of its crops are watered And like someone else said- most of the crops grown on the midwest are not suitable for human use, mostly industrial feed or fuel (corn, wheat) or food additives (corn syrup, soy). Most of what is grown domestically to eat, like supermarket, comes from California, and it is drying up fast

@ieuanhunt552 Another problem is that Claif0rnia simultaneously is America's breadbasket (most crops outside of corn and wheat are grown there) but climate change is slowly bringing California's climate back to normal. The last 2 centuries have been a rare rainy period for it, but naturally it is a dry climate, like Crimea. Once the transition back to its dry cycle is complete, the US may have a food shortage issue
