It's unsustainable. They import a good chunk of the raw materials that their economy relies on. They're not in some closed loop system where everyone lives well in exchange for stagnated growth— it's only a matter of time before the countries they rely on to ship in raw materials for their factories develop and start real wage increases, making exports more expensive.

@Peregrine1989 Perhaps the lower classes in Japan do have a nicer standard of living than most globally, but that implies that they're near some end-point. I don't think they are. Finland and several other countries have opted to simply end homelessness altogether. Measuring whose lower class has it best is a meaningless endeavor when you can just raise the floor with a policy change. Instead of net cafés why not just give the homeless access to an apartment? Instead of striving to achieve the 'best result' with the concept, remove the concept altogether.
