@Go4Noctis Yes, they are different things- but I'm talking about the premise behind the comparison. Both autism and deafness are physical (because even mental differences have a physical element- neurons) disorders that some find to be a blessing rather than a curse. Then, they fight against a cure for that disorder, because they happened to like what they got. Completely unaware that some people wish they could be neurotypical- not out of self-pity, but from a genuine desire to process emotions, have a relationship, etc.

Yeah it's sort of like some people (of which I'm not part, just saw this on a Tumblr post somewhere) don't want there to be a cure for deafness because it's discriminating against "deaf culture". Some people can't grasp the idea that, even if they made something useful out of it, their disorder is still a disorder.

@maselala Well, I don't think it can be classed as strictly eugenics if the premise is actually curing people. Eugenics was the idea that some people (races) were to be promoted and others were to be prevented- or outright killed. No one's saying we should harm autistic people, but give them the option to become neurotypical, should they so choose.
