You are representative democracy, and even then only truly within the Upper (Senatorial) Chamber. Representatives are appointed based on district, but those can (and are, except in few swing states) manipulated to prederermine a state vote. The American system enjoys much stability, but not good function. It is not much of a republic, either, since one-half of the representatives are vulnerable to being picked by the previous party.

@brettalmeda3880 Please. He created a boom that quickly went bust with Black Monday. And he accelerated the process of outsourcing millions of blue collar jobs to China, which Nixon had started (and, granted, Carter continued as well). If you think the biggest different is drawn along party lines then your eyes are not open.
