  2.  @AndresGrelan  Yeah, no. This was tried in the 1990s, Yeltsin was beloved in the US. The West repaid our goodwill by robbing Russia blind. Buying up state assets (illegally) for peanuts, allowing oligarchs to launder Russians' money out of the country and into Western banks, and sending policy "experts" to suggest Russia de-indydtrialize and start depending on Western manufacturing and services. It created a lost decade which was especially bad in Russia, since it was the geopolitical focus of the US' "shock therapy" plan. We will never make that mistake again. The West is not to be trusted.
