@sophiapeters8206 Trauma in this case is referring to extreme enough cases that your brain refuses to work through the memory. Like PTSD, sexual abuse, victim of terrorism etc. Trauma is also a misused term now. Tumblr is to blame for this I think. Ever since it discovered the term toxic Tumblr users act like they own it. Follow with triggers, victim, abuse, (this one was picked up by men) frame, etc. All these idiots taking words they don't understand and flaunting them

@stewpidasso3910 Latchkey kids would laugh at what you just said, though. In fact it's precisely your logic that was presented in the video as a reason for the change in Americans' loss of capability. Those kidnapping cases were overblown for ratings, and it was a string of them that never repeated. In most cases the abuser is always known to the child. It's not a stranger in a van you should've worried about, but the kids' uncle, or babysitter, or someone they talk to online. Ironically by not letting her outside and develop a sense of the different levels of danger, you've made her vulnerable to exploitation. Much like capybaras evolved with no natural predators and so aren't afraid of humans approaching them.

@Disappointment If you mean abductions, then you do have a problem. But most of them are by disgruntled parents (usually dad) after they've lost custody. Not an actual kidnapper. Actual rates of kidnapping have remained the same, even after kids were locked inside. As I said to the other person, most cases of abuse are carried out by someone known to the child. Crazy that the image of the white van hasn't left parents minds 2 generations later. They lapped it up from the TV screen. Makes me wonder if the parents aren't as naive as children too
