I read into a Macworld response to the video, and their answer is interesting. They "say" (really they implied it for plausible deniability) that Apple just says that to cover their true motives. The real reason is that Apple doesn't want to replace the missing part (legally speaking, because he took the machine apart), and would rather he buy a new machine. Not to save him money, like Alexander Thomsen suggested, but because they want more money. Of course they have a support network for replacing the new lineup's parts.
