For us its more personal satisfaction and less about being the coolest in our catty little social circle or online like women do... But it's still there for men just more subtle

@tammygant4216 I get the feeling that the pricing structure of companies has changed in that time, though. For example people used to buy furniture from local carpenters and it would cost an arm and a leg. A printer used to cost $2,000 even for a home model. But after companies realized they could sell to more people by cutting corners and lowering costs, and that's the standard we've become used to. As pretentious as it sounds, we need to get used to the normal price of products again. Shelling out a lot of money upfront for a durable item isn't common as it used to be. A good frying pan can cost $100, but it will last for decades. Per year, that's cheaper than getting a ceramic or nonstick every 5-10 years.
