But no food will ever be truly American, not unless it changes so much that it's unrecognizable from its predecessor. Example: apple pie is from England. Hamburgers are from Germany. Pot pie is from Greece. Pizza is Italian. Same with activities: Football is somewhat American, but it's really just rugby. Baseball is British too. Democracy isn't uniquely American. All of its foundational principles, by necessity, were borrowed. Because America's original inhabitants were massacred, and Europeans had to create their own culture. But it can never be unique. It never developed independently. Never in close relationship with geography, or human development. Sorry.
