@jordanbordan2383 I mean... Ichkeria did choose to invade in 1999, they were expecting to be greeted as liberators. Instead, the Dagestanis fought them every meter. They could have just stayed independent, but they chose to declare jihad on Moscow.

@jordanbordan2383 As so many Western people have told me, "two wrongs don't make a right". Ichkeria survived that war and could have rebuilt, keeping their independence. So why did they declare war- religious war, not even revenge, just jihad- on Moscow? It was a pointless and reckless action

@SuricateG4551 True, but it posed a threat nonetheless. 3 of the 4 generals involved in the invasion (along with most of the 2,000 men army) were ethnically Chechen. Only 1 was Saudi. Either way, the goal of these extremists was clear, and the Dagestanis did not share the same feelings, since they fought back. They worked to undermine the Ichkerian government, so even if they are defeated, what would be stopping Ichkeria from becoming a hiding place for Islamists in another 15 years?
