To be fair, drinking shitty water for generations would immunize the people from its diseases (by killing off the weakest), similarly to how Wisconsin farmers are resistant to salmonella because they don't pasteurize their milk. But just drinking it for a couple weeks, especially if you've been drinking clean water all your life, if a sure way to get sick.

  6.  @nixonesport1998  Sure, but for someone who claims to be heavily into science, Neil should know that human psychology doesn't respond linearly to events, but extremely complexly and, in the case of death, somewhat logarithmically. The number of deaths aren't what characterize how we react to them— it's the brutality, the preventability, recency, unexpectdness, etc etc. To suggest that we should just change the way we think about death because math tells us otherwise is ridiculous.

  11.  @AyleidCraft  Sorry for text block- A chore to watch, as in, it's an onslaught of information. YouTube's layout has, if you haven't noticed, changed over the years to be more and more like a slot machine. It's harder to find good content without the Featured Section, now you've really gotta look for it. The first few things I see are always Recommended and news videos. (Pre-roll ads I get, but) double unskippable ads, in-video sponsors, optimization (every video is stretched to ~10 minutes) and content that isn't super easy to reproduce every day, animations, video essays, just random videos, is becoming rarer and harder to reliably find. Everything starts to look the same so when I go on to watch people Broadcast Themselves, half my time is taken up looking for something good, instead of a vlog, gaming channel, or text-to-speech Reddit video. How is it like a slot machine, then? It gives out rewards randomly. Most of the time when you click, it's just average. But every so often a really good video comes up and keeps you coming back. And this is intentional. YouTube slowly changed its algorithm from virality (hence keyboard cat, Chocolate Rain, Evolution of Dance, Lazer Collection) to retention; ever since Google bought it.

  12. Idk, sugar is an addictive substance, behavioral changes are documented with high intake of drugs (sugar included- it also produces withdrawal symptoms like a drug). Plus, humans are animals, and our behavior isn't logical, it's predictable and probabalistic. So I wouldn't say it's his fans, it's what he's eating. Sorry if that doesn't juve with the personal responsibility angle, but willpower only takes you so far- it has limits, and believing it doesn't is naive.

Apparently the movie is a sort of memoir since she herself did some crazy things before realizing that neither strict Islam nor secular sex-craze are the right path

  27.  @AyleidCraft  Neither do I, but the profit motive often can (and in this case is, slowly) diminishing the appeal of what made the product profitable to begin with. It's self-cannibalizing. I hope never to see the day YouTube just morphs into TV, but the way things are going atm, my hopes aren't high.
