@John Lo That's great as philosophy, but it leaves some nations inherently better off than others, and robs us of any capacity to find a way around the issues of hostile environment. You're also not taking climate change into account, or the fact that people have been geo-engineering for millennia. The Amazon, Siberia, and Australian outback all still bear evidence of the fact that their native populations did exactly what you're opposed to— looked at the uninviting land and said "I'm going to live here anyway!". They spent centuries cultivating crops and animals which were favorable to their habitation and success. The "untouched" wilderness is a myth. There is no patch of land unaffected by us, and if we want to live happily in a stable world, then we need to overcome geographical constructions with technology and level the playing field. If we all subject ourselves to the whims of nature, conflicts over natural resources will be never-ending.

You forgot the part where one does all the work and the other writes his name on the paper at the very end

@John Lo Well, we're... us, so I would hope we're invested in solving our own problems. Unless you want everyone to simply die off, this is the world we're dealing with and we need to accomodate everyone in a way that it's stable.

@John Lo No, I was referring to 'occupied with their own perspective', not 'that's the problem with humans'. I understand that we are an invasive species. I don't really have any feeling about that- it can either be a bad or good thing, depending not only on your view of humanity but also how far along sustainability we are. And I wasn't implying how we should be using nature, simply that it should be sustainable. Whatever quality of nature we'd like to keep in equilibrium will be determined- whether we stop just short of stripping it dry or letting it be healthy is a collective, not individual, effort.

Germany: am I a joke to you?

@kamper5789 Yeah, that single atoll was bombed 70+ times. Of course the effects are going to be longer lasting and more severe. And btw, Chernobyl is home to a massive amount of wildlife (of course it's because it's the one area where humans refuse to go, but most of them survive and the mutations from radiation aren't third eyes or extra limbs. Basically it's survivable.)
