@nathanielmorey2800 Smart. It's been shown that intelligent people are actually more prone to cognitive biases and stubbornness, because they have the mental tools to convince themselves of anything with rationalizations. Whereas a "stupid" person would simply be forced to acknowledge the reality and change their mind, because they don't have the prior knowledge or logical skills to fool themselves.

@cinnamoncoffeecake5925 EDIT: maybe you are right. The 1979 study that birthed this notion never actually tested people's intelligence relative to their conviction about (for the subject used in the study) capital punishment. ——— You would think so, but people are people and our biology hasn't changed much in 200K years. We are prone to hundreds of cognitive biases and this is one of them.

@erinhardick1362 Not saying we should temporarily solve that problem, because it would induce a false sense of complacency long enough to doom everyone, but— Given how much traffic airports get, wouldn't a concrete run/taxiway be better for hot climates?

@phiscz Ah right. The expanding ice problem. Maybe someday there will be both a permeable and durable material. For now, we are stuck with either asphalt, tarmac, or concrete. Thank you for the information. Hope all governments will swallow their pride and allow each other to use nuclear and renewables tech before it is too late

What if flip Earth over so our head is resting on the cool side? Ez

Hope it does so he's forced to acknowledge the existence of the unrelenting heat.

Not really. I hate to be a doomer, but it will require all governments convene and share technology, immediately. That just won't happen until the politicians can no physically longer escape the heat. And by then it will be too late. Without the entire world going nuclear and either becoming vegan or rapidly developing lab grown meat, the vast majority of emissions will continue as usual. I'd say may God help us, but I think he's shaking his head with pity right now.
