  2. Even if there was an alliance— Stalin found out in May about Hitler's plans to annex Poland, from Rudolf von Scheliha (iirc) a double agent working in Berlin. The choice was clear: either work with Hitler and minimize what he achieves, or let him take the entirety of Poland. Had he chosen to do nothing, there is a good chance that Polish people simply would not even exist to air their grievances today.
