@trevorhast5367 Yes, the treaty's terms were overturned by a newer document. But Jefferson's sentiment did not change just because the document was superceded. Separation of church and state is still a crucial part of American political doctrine. As far as people are concerned (with Christianity occupying about 60% of American religious tastes) yes, the United States is a "Christian nation." But it was not founded on Judeo-Christian principles, nor should it ever incorporate them into its legal system.

Overturned in 1805, and only the English (not the Turkish) translation had it, but your point stands. The United States was and is a secular "nation" (that term refers to the people, when the reality is our government isn't religious- the people certainly are).

@wildlifeguy Well, I can't exactly cite the absence of content, but here is the treaty that superceded the Treaty of Tripoli: http://avalon.law.yale.edu/19th_century/bar1805t.asp If you'll scroll down to the 14th article, you'll notice identical context, but no mention of the original phrase (nor in the original Arabic— not Turkish, my mistake— version of the Tripoli Treaty). And, here is the Tripoli treaty to compare: http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/bar1796t.asp
