  1.  @shadowbanned636  All those words, and you still couldn't address my point. Crimeans overwhelmingly (look to any poll, before or after 2014) want to be a part of Russia. Ukrainian, US, Canadian, German, and Russian polls all reflect this consistently. Making the argument of international law is ridiculous because 1) it's violated all the time and Americans dont seem to care unless it's done by a geopolitical rival, leading me to think they don't care at all except to use 'international law' as a political cudgel 2) After the violation of Minsk II and especially damming the Crimean canal there is good legal precedent for the Crimeans to officially declare independence from Ukraine. Frankly, how can you make an argument like that while also supporting any Western Revolution? French Revolutionary activity was 100% illegal under French law. "We support it when it's moral" Okay so should the majority of Crimeans not have had the results of their own referendum (1994, not 2014) respected and be allowed to return to Russia? "Doesn't matter if it's moral, international law goes above all else. Slava ukraini!!!" You can see the type of intellectual heavyweights I'm dealing with here. They should have gone into gymnastics instead...

  3.  @ajitKumar-zk1yx  I think it should be Kiev. This was the mistake of the Tsars, continuing to rule from St. Petersburg and not re-uniting all the Rus territories properly. The royal family once ruled from Kiev, it should have returned to there 500 years ago and this whole conflict would never be a problem

  4.  @confusedalex5612  Why not? Scots can decide to leave the UK, the sentiment is rising and— importantly— the UK honored the wishes of Scotland and allowed the vote to happen. You're holding a double standard here— and if we're going off of just legality, then Taiwan is a part of the Republic of China. China has every right, according to you, to station troops on its island and cut off TSMC from trading with US companies.

  5.  @apr0l  In Old Ukrainian (when the language was just starting to form under Polish occupation of Rus) the pronunciation is Kiev Same as Moscow, the foreign spelling is closer to original, Moskva is a newer version. Yet we don't whine and ask people to call it that

  6.  @confusedalex5612  Fill it with russians? ...My dude. Even Ukraine's own census data confirms that Crimea was, and continues to be, 99% ethnically Russian. Go online and check their 2010 census, and scroll down to Krym. It's been that way for decades. Even before the mass deportation of Tatars (who were themselves invaders coming on the back of Genghis Khan), it was settled mostly by ethnic Russians, all the way back when the US was only 50 years old.

  8.  @confusedalex5612  You're right, my mistake. I looked at the wrong row of data. http://2001.ukrcensus.gov.ua/eng/results/general/nationality/ It was 58%, which would pass a vote anyway. It was 67% in 2014, but that's about the same as in Soviet times, and only about 200,000 Russians have moved there since, so most of that migration was natural between 2001-2013. Also, Crimea literally voted to leave Ukraine in 1994 but Ukraine declared it illegal. So much for respecting democracy lol
