Sorry for replying so late, but what would you consider to be a more accurate observation (based on more correct information)? I think Russia's political history is almost always guided by seeking security and access to trade, and these priorities have shaped the mindset of inidividuals.

@TheRezro Don't tell me you're one of those who thinks that Russia was "invented in 1700" lmao

If you put a mountain range separating us from Europe, we'll gladly stop expanding. But we keep getting invaded- after Napoleon, Russia was told by the rest of Europe not to worry about Germany- this isn't the 1800's anymore! Guess how that worked out. Now, they're saying "don't worry, it's the 2010s, not ancient history, you won't be invaded!" Russia will not take that chance again. Either we get access to the ocean, or we die trying. Almost every other country has some access to water, why are we consistently blocked from doing so?

I can'r speak on the historical identity of the towns that Muscovy conquered, but it begs the question: why would Muscovy invade if the towns were already Russian? (I don't mean culturally- if you can even prove that- I mean politically.) Also, you're half-right. Russians did not entirely embrace the idea that their destiny was to reach the other end of Siberia, and destroy the sub-human Siberian tribes. This was for a few reasons. One, they simply did not hold that ideology. Two, they couldn't do that even if they wanted to. It's far too cold and dense to sweep across like the Great Plains. It's harder to move through Siberia than it is through Western United States. Also, they were part of the New World. They were protected against Eurasian diseases like smallpox and measles, because they already had it. The Natives of America were killed almost exclusively by disease. This doesn't excuse the actions of early Americans, but it does even the scales as far as the number killed is concerned.

@rinaldsLV Other way around. "Slave" comes from the word Slav, because Rusians (not Russians; people whose culture was that of the Kievan Rus') were enslaved and sold by Arab traders for hundreds of years.

@piirakkaliisa8340 I largely agree with what you said, but don't trust Uncle Sam, either. The only reason you weren't given the American Treatment is because Finland has almost always been geopolitically convenient for the U.S.. I hope I don't have to remind you what happens to countries that try to nationalize or privatize their own resources (Guatemala, Nicaragua, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Cuba... the list goes on). Both the Bear and the Eagle are on major power trips and need to be slapped in the face. Now, with the Dragon (guess who that is) showing its ambitions, the world will simply collapse under their collective economic demand.
