@ten_tego_teges Hopefully, this changes. Climate change will last for hundreds of years with the damage we've done, but Putin will make it another 25 at best. I hope to see Russia restore not only its climate, but its economy and overhaul its entire structure. Of course, Europe has always had it easier, being in a better geographical spot (I think all of history would be different if Russia had a warm water port) but Russia can do the same. Let's see how this turns out.

Sjwaria Law Yes, they are hellscapes. Have you ever been near the equator in the summer? Not to mention tens of thousands of Russians will die due to heatstroke because they aren't adapted to that kind of climate. Global warming is a disaster- the world might be more green, but we, humanity, will not survive. We depend on plankton in the ocean to absorb gases, and bees to pollinate our food. Those are currently dying. More carbon dioxide also does not make things better for trees- areas that are dependent on cold first, C02 second will die off. Do you really think billions of fir trees and millions of kilometres of Siberian grasses are going to survive in the temperate climate? And your obsession with taxes just proves what I've been thinking for years now, climate denial is all about money. You're okay with the whole climate of the world changing, but taxes are what annoy you? How small-minded are you? Your house is burning down, but the jewelry is melting! Tragedy!

@George-real You haven't really addressed what I said, and you being Canadian makes little difference. In the U.S., Trump supporters are convinced that he's a blessing to the economy when they've seen virtually no improvement to their lives whatsoever. So your anecdote about 'how things kinda are' doesn't sway me. It really doesn't take much to brainwash a person. Please answer the original premise: do Canadian conservatives not wish to increase an already high proportion of trade with the United States by deregulating trade and cutting taxes? Would that not increase the volume of trade with the United States, and how would that not make the Canadian economy more dependent on the United States?

@George-real You don't know much about Canada, do you? The liberals are distinctly anti-American and go out of their way to be economically independent (as much as they can, anyway- I'm aware of the numbers) from the U.S.. They levy tariffs to keep American businesses out, and Canadian businesses afloat. If those were taken away, Canada's economy would be quickly replaced by American firms until it truly would become an American vassal.

Nevermind the fact that St. Petersburg will definitely flood, this is great! But really, I don't understand why Russia didn't just diversify its economy following 2008, Putin (contrary to Western thought) did, in fact, massively improve the lives of Russians while early in office. He could have done more, but instead weakened Russia by deepening its dependence on oil and natural gas. He could have invested enormous R&D into advanced ice-breaker technology, or undersea transport. Anything, besides warming the Earth. He's not stupid, he knows climate change is real, so why would he jeopardize the whole world for an unguaranteed boost to Russian prosperity in the short-term, when the damage (swathes of India dying from heat, Sahara uninhabitable, coastal cities flooding, water wars, melting Russian permafrost and eventual destruction of Siberia) will do far worse than the capability to trade could ever make up for? I just don't understand the man fully. Perhaps he's just here to make a point to the U.S., and then leave the rest up to us.
