  2. ​ @notfunny333  Maybe, but there are plenty of them who are poor or just middle-class, in every country where they have diaspora. I think it's just their national psychology. They fundamentally feel insecure and weak (ironic given their whole religion revolves around being divinely favored) and so seek to manipulate larger countries to act as their bodyguard. They have never had an expansive empire with land and defensible borders, so over the centuries they specialized in more 'abstract' professions. This brought them wealth and protection, though it was built through a shaky network of alliances and snaking their way through societies' higher functions. Instead of focusing on fundamentals of nation-building, they just kept at the same strategy of mooching off other societies' stability. Until they reconcile with their neighbors or just move to a part of the world where their small size and population isn't an existential threat, they will constantly be doing this. Caught in a spiral of paranoia and opportunism.
