@brendanthompson2082 And yet that's exactly how many men manipulate. Stone walling. I said "many" because not all men, much like not all women, etc. But it's a pattern. In the end it makes you want to say "who cares?," throw in the towel and accept it's a bad match. Then men wail about the "walk away wife" syndrome. Now they have their complete silence. Live and learn.

She should not have to "submit" grudgingly. She should naturally want to go in your direction because you two match well. Otherwise, you're simply a poor match.

@dharmadasa66 Famous words of the first person narrator: "the toxicity is emanating from the other side." Right. Maybe, maybe not. You would have to let an impartial world to be the judge of that since you cannot be trusted as an "I/me" narrator.

He cannot decide on “when” the toxicity is emanating from the other side bc he cannot know for sure since he is clearly a mountain of ego. Those who practice the silent treatment, even if they think it’s their partner who has a monopoly on “toxicity,” deserve being left by that partner. It is clearly a poor match or just a match with un unreasonable idiot who thinks the silent treatment is ever justified.

Sometimes it's the other way around. Rational, reasonable, logical woman - passive aggressive, conflict avoidant man. She eventually gets angry trying to get through, he continues to shrug and stonewall, then she gets accused of raising her voice. Back to square 1: poor communication = poor match. If only people could stop that "make marriage work at any cost" dogma. The reason why people end up raising their voices after many reasonable and rational tries, is because they are a poor match. Some are smarter and better positioned than others (with more options and more time) to extract themselves from the sketchy relationship. With a tighter timeline, it is more difficult for the woman to "extract herself" before marriage.

@mbg9650 So you mean it's your way or the highway. Amazing how so many men can't see where the problem is. How about some fair play? You're not in Islam to rely on coercion, the babe CAN leave, after all. So you'll be onto your next relationship. Then you see any woman who attempts to advocate on her behalf even in the slightest...as a "boss babe?" Oh, well. It's gonna be a long search.

@kevingibbs5632 Conflict avoidants "harmony at all costs" types can perceive any attempt to bridge differences or any vigorous engagement as terrible distress. No one "manufactures" conflict when they are in a well-matched relationship. If they perceive differences that need to be addressed or express unmet needs, they bring up the issue but the conflict-avoider will go passive aggressive and resist. Then the "plaintiff" becomes increasingly frustrated and raise their voice to get their point across. Then the cycle goes on. Unicorn = high compatibility, no need to bridge differences. Nailed.

@ShadowMind312 Well, imagine that, if you stonewall her. Just admit you're engaging in a power struggle (not anything particularly righteous) which shouldn't exist if the two of you actually matched well. But apparently you don't.

I have a hunch that many men who have been defamed as "simple, boring, dumb and shallow" did not receive those labels by virtue of their..."virtue" only. Sometimes they really are boring, dumb and shallow. This is the same as hiding serious masculine deficiencies behind the nice guy label, much like a fugly and awkward woman would hide behind the "good, chaste girl" label. It's not flying.

@detroitvcw I read it. Lady Geniusette for you. Not playing anything - just focusing on statements, especially unhinged ones since lots fly around here. The context you speak of is not apparent enough to justify the words "our level of articulation and intelligence is enough." That's exactly the problem: sometimes it is, sometimes it's not. You seem to imply that every man finds himself with a woman less intelligent than him. It would be nice, but this is not always the case. Sometimes she literally knows better because she is the more intelligent party. Yes, this is sad, but women are on a bell curve too ans they don't always pair up in hypergamous ways, IQ-wise. You can be sure that many of the men you address here have been exactly in this situation. This combined with the male ego which tells them they are above ANY woman by default, hence the woman should listen to them or just shut up...well, that can prevent men from seeing she might have a constructive point, after all. Heterosexuality is not for the faint of heart.

@detroitvcw Lady Geniusette for you. The context clues you speak of here are nowhere clear enough to justify that choice of words: "our intelligence and articulation is enough." That's just the thing: it often isn't and this goes unrecognized. These can be poor matches where the woman is, de facto, closer to the right-end of the Bell Curve than he is. Shocker of all shockers, women are on a Bell Curve too. In such cases, she wants to look up to him but simply can't; but due to male ego, all men want to believe they are above in "intelligence and articulation" relative to any woman, which is simply untrue. Some do end up with women more intelligent than they are and this is sad, indeed, both for him and for her. This has nothing to do with "masculine women." Just poor matches. The "patriarchy" is perfectly peachy except it can't be built with morons.

The only thing some men understand is 'walk away wife' syndrome. Oh, wait. They don't understand that either. They just lament: "why would she do such a thing, out of the blue?" Remember the number: 70-80% of divorces are initiated by women. Any better explanation for this statistic than most of the posts here? ...

@EE12CSVT Correct. Great matches are rare. Connection and good compatibility or not, the woman wants to look up to him, naturally, and when she can’t (this is something instinctive, can’t be moralized or ordered), she feels she must nag or take on the reigns, etc,which always leads to trouble. There are not that many inspirational men out there and women probably evolved to reproduce with those few who are, since a majority of men in history, with the exception of the past 2000 years, did not even reproduce.

@marklawrence17 So if they can't align with each other...maybe they don't fit together? Why break from all that push? It's either you refuse to accommodate her in any way, or maybe it's the Universe talking to you that you don't belong.
