@pauldavids7167 Women DO give "freaking clues" ALL THE TIME. The trouble is people are often indifferent towards others who give them clues they are interested, and they want who they want, which is usually someone who has their eyes on someone else, and so on.
That applies to both men and women.
When two people with genuine interest in each other come together, it's an actual miracle because then there is natural merging, not one "pursing" the other while the other is "meh," hoping in fact for someone else.
The rest is just market games.
As for "all of history" - it is absolutely true that men have pursued women, since women are de facto the more valuable sex from a biological/reproductive standpoint. Sperm is cheap, eggs are expensive type thing. Granted, prime sperm is THE most expensive, but that's a different story. That's where you can expect women to drop handkerchiefs and passively, discreetly "pursue" the man. But that will not be more than signaling interest, for plausible deniability, as Taraban clarified. Any woman who's making direct, overt, actual advances to a guy is not a woman you would want anyway, and if you do, you are a deep, hopeless Beta which no woman worth her salt would value anyway.
