Competitive is... competitive, it is a challenge and rewards effort, it does need the correct mindset to keep it fun. Casual is relaxed and can be too easy and boring at times, but it can be the only place for the occasional player. I don't think it has anything to do with the age of the game, unless nostalgia is playing a role, but does it matter if you shoot a player or a bot? If you dominate others on casual - then it's no fun for them, but if you smash a bunch of bots - it feels like a fake victory right? In the end it's the fun in performing well (at your level), regardless of the result - a strong fought loss can still feel like something of a victory. Games like CoD and Battlefield can be useful when you don't have a full team of 5 to play with. What are your games when you have less than 5 or more than 5 friends?
