You know, what annoys me about the piped-in sound is that, in most of the cars that have it, it's not even necessary. Like, my wife's X3 doesn't have any piped-in sound at all, yet the engine is still audible when it's in Sport mode because there is a valved exhaust system (stock, btw... I can see the valve when I look in the rear exhaust tip on the driver's side). My IS 500 has piped-in sound, but I keep it turned off at all times because it isn't necessary. It is very much audible without it. Is it loud? No... but there is enough there that, even with the windows down at higher speeds, I can still hear at least the induction note. And if nothing else, having more-convincing engine noise would be nice.
And here's this GLS which sounds perfectly fine. I don't have any gripes with the sounds it makes. A GLS should not sound better than an AMG GT, or certainly, the GT shouldn't sound fake in comparison.
