The ZF 8-speed is great from the factory. I am always amazed every time I drive my friend's stage 2 F30 335i. There's basically no lag from the paddles, and I get a nice kick on the upshifts. But even without the paddles it's always doing the right thing anyway. I can only imagine how this Supra must feel with much less weight.

@inanitas Wikipedia says: "Binaural recording is a method of recording sound that uses two microphones, arranged with the intent to create a 3-D stereo sound sensation for the listener of actually being in the room with the performers or instruments." So I think that, when Tedward says it's binaural, he's right.

The ZF 8 speed is phenomenal and is a fun transmission to drive anyway.

The Dodge Hellcat, Aston Martin Vantage, modern Audi RS cars, etc all have the DSG "fart" sound from factory even though they don't have dual clutch transmissions. It's more to do with allowing the engine revs to drop more quickly without losing boost than it is about creating unnecessary noise. A stock Supra has these sounds in manual mode as well.

Based on the comments on this video, maybe a video explaining the noise during shifts would not go amiss. It seems a lot of people think it's only needed for DCTs.

It's wonderful technology. 😁I get way too much enjoyment out of shifting my GTI DSG through the gears. Bonus is that the shifts are faster because of it.

@VuBeClan RS5, RS6 and a few others do not have DSG transmissions.

What do you mean "VW"? A lot of cars with quick shifts do this. Even a Dodge Demon has these upshift cracks.

@QuizzyV "DSG farts" or whatever you like to call them are not fake. They actually have a purpose. And they are wonderful. 😁

@Loothansa I'm pretty sure the only times I've actually heard the sound while driving were on modified cars, or my own car of course. It's there, stock, just not nearly as loud. Also, I'm sure I've heard it from some Challengers and Chargers before since they're pretty loud from factory.

@supersecularboypants The Supra has the same horsepower rating as the Z4 for 2021.

@GOTTHEFUZZ It's not useless. It actually has a purpose. Deutsche Auto Parts has a video explaining it, maybe check that out if you haven't already. It has nothing to do with torque converter transmissions or dual-clutch and more to do with shift speed.

@DatFinnishGuy How original.

@DatFinnishGuy Seriously no one cars if it's BMW or not. It's a two-seat sports car with a B58, can we not just drive the thing and appreciate it for what it is?
1
@DatFinnishGuy The car would not exist without BMW.
1
@DatFinnishGuy I doubt that.

@DatFinnishGuy What an original comment, I've never seen this really actually funny joke before, amazing job 11/10

@DatFinnishGuy Maybe stop spamming every comment with this garbage.
1
@DatFinnishGuy Don't.
1
@DatFinnishGuy Maybe post something of actual insight or value instead of parroting the same thing thousands of other people have said.

@DatFinnishGuy If you get off to making people mad, you need to find a video game to play or a real car to drive.
