  2. In the past, cults formed mainly in multicultural countries like America, Australia, and New Zealand. Now, because of the internet, they can form anywhere. Has Portugal gone through some recent unrest? Because cults also tend to proliferate during such times as wars and economic downturns.

  5. Having been in a cult myself, I can tell you some things. First, most Americans are raised in Christianity, and are taught to never question its basic teachings: i.e., there is a God, and He is all-powerful, ever-present, and perfect. Next, the recruit is usually going through a period of tremendous personal upheaval , where the old rules no longer apply, and they lack a strong support system. In that case, all it takes is a charismatic leader to offer easy salvation and instant comrades. The leader can throw in a scare by saying he has special access to God, and rejecting this message could mean eternal damnation. Realizing I was in a cult turned me into an atheist.

  8. I am American. I was in a cult once. I didn't even realize it until I was forced to sit helpless while my niece joined a cult, dropping out of high school to do so. The experience turned me into an atheist. I have since left Christianity and become a Buddhist. All religions are true, and all are cults. The difference is how they're practiced.

  14. 😫😫😫😫😫 My father's 3rd wife lived crazily, then decided to clean up her act and join the JWs. They had 2 daughters together. She showed blatant favoritism to the first one. The younger one moved away and formed her own life. The older one went through a bunch of dysfunctional experiences, and when she realized Jehovah wasn't going to help her, she left the religion. She went from being the favorite to being disowned.

  17. I visited Montana for the first time last summer. We stayed at Symes Hot Springs Hotel in the town of Hot Springs. It's actually on the Flathead Reservation. I wonder - what if all high school students took part in Habitat for Humanity? That way, they could fix up their trailers, making them weatherproof. They could also gain valuable construction skills, which could be useful when they're adults.
