That's weird. My 9th grade class was shown a birth film. Most of the girls were grossed out, but I wasn't. There wasn't even that much blood. The baby was covered in slime, but what's the big deal? Just wash it off. I admit, I've only seen photographs if placenta, and they look pretty gross. But I wouldn't say they're traumatizing. What IS traumatizing to me is rampant child abuse and neglect, and my inability to provide for a family. I chose not to have children, for that reason.

@mimi.xo_ - in both cases, the person is persecuted for trying to promote progress.

Marcellies Holland - hysterectomies are not necessary for birth control. Get a tubal ligation instead.

"Forced sterilization of the mentally disabled". I work with developmentally disabled adults. The company I work for routinely puts the women on birth control. A few years back, there was an extremely unfortunate case where a male worker was caught sexually assaulting a female client. She was completely defenseless, because she was wheelchair-bound and could barely speak. At least no one had to worry about her getting pregnant! P.S. The monster is serving 20 years in prison. Since he was im his mid 60s, that's virtually a life sentence.

You missed Natural Family Planning, also known as the Rhythm Method. True, it wasn't as effective in the past, but it had greatly improved in recent times.

You'll rethink that if you ever have an unwanted pregnancy.

That's because it's not true. Nobody puts a gun to their heads and makes blacks go to the clinic. Though maybe they should, so they can make more responsible choices. Anything is better than a 77% illegitimacy rate!

Can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em! It's NOT ok for girls of ANY ethnicity to get knocked up, drop out of high school, and go on welfare. If birth control is readily available, at least they have that option.

Why are you calling her a racist eugenicist? Because she would have protested the 72% illegitimacy rate among blacks? Not to mention 41% receiving government aid, instead of supporting the children they chose to have. P.S. I'm a black woman. No, I don't fit that demographic.

Maybe it did work. That form of birth control is effective for only 6 months.

Why torture Dr. G? If IUDs don't agree with you, there are over a dozen other methods you can use.

Lack of birth control is where this idea came from.

@modenasolone - the late great Dick Gregory, born in 1932, grew up on welfare (called "relief" in those days). In 1960, the illegitimacy rate was 8% (20% for blacks). Today, it is 40% (up to 80% for blacks). This obviously has a lot to do with PERSONAL RESPONIBILITY and CHOICE. The truth hurts. But it also sets you free. Claiming personal responsibility gives you the power to do something about your situation.

The nursing method works for only 6 months.
