  4. I never met Carmen Best - never even heard of her, until recently - but she was Chief of Police when I lived in the Seattle area. I suffered a nervous breakdown and did something highly illegal. The Seattle police were very nice and wonderfully supportive. It is for that reason I have great respect for her. What was done to her recently is an ABSOLUTE shame! P.S. I'm a black woman, and the police I dealt with were white men.

  7. I visited Seattle 3 weeks ago. I noticed it had nearly tripled in size in the 20 years since I used to live there. I didn't see any of this, and didn't pick up any bad vibes there. Is it REALLY that horrible?

  13. I lived in the Seattle area from 1997 - 2001. I loved it at first sight. I find this video shocking and horrifying. It's like I wouldn't recognize it if I visited today.

  14. Oh, great. When I lived in Oakland, it was mainly San Pablo Ave and MacArthur Blvd. But that was in the Dark Ages, 50 years ago.

  16. Not necessarily. The homeless who are down on their luck usually stay homeless no longer than 7 months. You don't see them; they stay in shelters or live in their cars, keep clean and sober, get jobs, and get back on their feet. The ones who are obviously visible are the mentally ill junkies.

  21. Your comment breaks my heart. I lived in the Seattle area from 1997 to 2001; it too is my favorite city. I arrived by plane at night. The next morning, I was overawed at the sight of the city sitting in a silver bowl of mountains, with Mt. Rainier presiding over it all. The 2001 recession caused me to suffer a nervous breakdown, and I had to be rescued by my brother; that's why I left. It's something I'll never get over. The past 2 decades, I dedicated myself to returning someday - but now, I find out there's nothing to return to. 😭 P.$. I love Portland, too. It has charms of its own. I understand it is unfortunately going down the same path.
