You're asking the wrong question. Was there something that stopped the big bang from starting? The big bang is still happening as the universe is still expanding and the expansion is accelerating. Everything you see is part of a huge explosion that is still exploding.

@jimgraham6722 agreed, we are in a realm of difficult to verify -- exactly the same problem that string theory and M-theory is running into. I think your idea is certainly worth exploring further. Well done, sir!

@ozymandiasnullifidian5590 well, why was there no time or space prior to this? How do we know this? I don't know if that is a valid assumption. There could be an infinite amount of really dense spacetime in all directions that decided to start expanding locally.

@ozymandiasnullifidian5590 hmm... Maybe you're right. If space is that which separates objects and time is what separates events. Seems simple enough. No objects to separate, no space. No events, no time. I really don't know just having ideas. Most of my ideas are probably wrong. No shame in having bad ideas, happens all the time. Thanks for clearing me up. Recommend any books? Hawking's book was a bit over my head and Brian Green's book got all string theory and I didnt finish it. I did like the bit about Max Plank's ultraviolet catastrophe though.
