@TroubledTrooper let's hope we can transfer his vision into a reasonable benevolent AI dictator.

@KX36 winning in this case is only an illusion.

C avoids any ABI by design. Its up to the OS and architecture to do the ABI. The function calling convention (part of the ABI) is the prologue and epilogue the architecture probably suggests to include...

i dunno... man, there's money to be arbitraged with faster transactions. If there's money to be made it could be 10000 times faster, for a price.
18
In engineering, there ARE rules. Its called physics.
13
I care. It's important stuff. Casey Muratori is a fantastic brain that is so enthusiastic. Love that guy.
12
Well cyberpunk 2077 was a bit of a disappointment at launch.
12
just write bad code. in C++. That would irritate him.
12
We can do more dumb stuff faster now!

It always was

I remember when i learned python list comprehensions. I started doing them everywhere . I knew it was a problem when i made a comprehension from a comprehension.
8
They can write their own kernel.

Trends exist because everyone has the same need, requirement, or desire. I guess I don't really disagree with you. Back in the early 1900s, I wonder if cars were overblown. 120 years later, cars are still a pretty big deal.
6
Hum... I was exactly opposite from that. When I started writing code, I felt that you needed a "masters degree in eclipse or visual studio" to get any understanding on what you're ACTUALLY doing.
4
@PixelThorn c++ was always shitty.
4
Tom is like... if I had a nickle every time they served up something
4
@zeuglcockatrice4633 all hail Tom's brilliance.
4
@user-hk3ej4hk7m its not C's fault you linked it wrong.
4
J-Diesle is also a perfect programming language
3
Me too, it would be a great loss
3
@Jeppelelle Some people are really amusing when they go all tilty.
3
I disagree, culture doesn't flow from anywhere. It's a distributed phenomena where we all participate. Linus Torvalds is just brave enough to say what he really thinks.
2
Hmm... I would really like to see namespaces in C. I guess you could enforce namespaces with something in the linter...
2
Mostly... Those libraries suck, mostly. You would be surprised what can be done by the standard library.
2
ASN.1 is more like a weird BSON format, at least in the DER encoding... It's a byte for the type, then a size of the following bytes....
2
There's unreadable code, and then there's cryptic shit like perl.
2
He lost me when he said Git doesn't scale. It seems to scale just fine for the linux kernel developers.
2
Stack overflow is so doomed.
2
Me too. The old code can be used for unit testing,
2
Real men!
2
If running the full test suite takes 30 hours, dedicate more resources to run different parts of the test concurrently. If you could get 10 systems, you could run your tests twice each work day.
2
Which policy would that be? The ones you like?
2
Just curious, I never really did much social media beyond YouTube. My brain just isn't big enough to handle more than one. Is the problem the platform or the people? It seems to me that people are becoming more toxic. It could be caused by social media.
2
@MaxHaydenChiz That's NOT a problem with C, its because that Coldfire processor has some gizmo peripheral that specific to coldfire. Its a dependency on the hardware.
2
I was the maintainer of the "trash can Mac." It was a Linux box converted into a Windows box that ran WSL with an Arch Linux image. I called it out as technical debt so many times...
1
@zealy1369it's not vim's fault you didn't revision control your configs, you nincompoop
1
@zeocamo precisely, and configs are super easy to pull over to a new system with a git clone!
1
so... what exactly do you mean rewrite C? do you mean rewrite a C compiler? Why would this assert dominance?
1
When you make a change on a branch and intend for the maintainer or yourself to pull your changes into master, running the regression tests to make sure it's ok.
1
@CottidaeSEA well, dependencies can be their own challenge
1
@CyberDork34 u beat me to it
1
someone needs to take the requirements to the engineers. That requires people skills.
1
Stack overflow is doomed.
1
I ate nachos
1
A java virtual machine implemented in java.
1
If you're not developing some solution, what are you using vim and linux for?
1
Milk Toasty take. I think you need some more flavor.
1
Needs power and chip fabs.
1
Decorators are GREAT!!!
1
I would love to be a virtuoso at really anything ... At this moment, i want to be a C virtuoso
